From time to time, the file format used in Font Gander Pro plug-ins is subject to change. When this happens, old plug-ins become obsolete; the new version of Font Gander Pro will no longer recognize the old version plug-ins. It thus becomes necessary to "rebuild" the plug-ins. This is also ncessary for first-time users who want to try the full array of available layouts as plug-in modules. Here's how:
Step 1: Open one of the pre-supplied Gander Quill layouts in Gander Quill. The Quill layouts are the ones that look like little sheets of paper with a feather in front. The Gander Quill program looks like a goosey little fellow holding a feather. (His name is Seymour. Seymour Fauntz. Call him "Sy" to his face, or he'll hiss at you.)
Step 2: Select "Build Plug-in..." from Gander Quill's File menu. Seymour will magically turn the Quill layout into a Font Gander Pro plug-in. (The plug-ins are the ones that show Seymour oo-ing and ahh-ing at a layout.)
Step 3: Save the resulting plug-in into the "Gander Plug-ins" folder, or move it there afterwards, so that Font Gander Pro can find it next time you launch Gander Pro. (You already know Seymour's famous pose for Gander Pro. Why, at this rate, he'll soon be a bigger trademark than Betty Crocker! But please don't mention that to jealous Betty. She's got a sharp cleaver and a hot oven.)
Step 4: Lather, rinse, repeat... There are lots of layouts you can convert into plug-ins.
The reason we're giving you this little chore, rather than shipping Gander with all pre-built plug-ins, is four-fold. Number one: It's as easy as Betty Crocker pie, once you give it a try. Number two: The plug-ins take up a lot of server space and lengthen a lot of downloads. Number three: Perhaps more people will acquire a liking for Gander Quill, and will design more layouts to share with the world. And reason number four: A lot of people already know that plug-ins are 'perishable goods', and they've got their own customized, modified, or wholly original layouts saved in Gander Quill format. They don't need factory-issue plug-ins.
